On December 2nd, Writtle University College (WUC) enjoyed hosting a BUCS (British Universities and College Sport) mini league event as part of the 2021-22 Equestrian season.

Three universities visited WUC's specialist equine campus to compete in dressage and show jumping.

Teams from University of Cambridge, De Montford University and the University of East Anglia showed a high standard of professionalism, but the WUC team was delighted to win the first competition of the season, scooping up first second, and third place.

  • Second: Emma Stringer
  • Third: Lily Buckle

In all BUCS Mini League events, riders borrow horses from the hosting institution. WUC supplied four horses for dressage and a further four for show jumping. Riders picked a letter from a hat (A, B, C or D) and then each horse competed four times in total - once with each institution.

Clare Jacobs, WUC coach and Yard Manager, was instrumental in putting the event together. She said: "We're very proud of our students. Our teams worked hard and came out with fantastic results. We were also pleased with the feedback from visiting universities. During the last few years, we've moved to new management and invested around £2 million into our equine campus, and this was reflected in the many positive comments on our horses and facilities."
