On November 24th, Writtle University College (WUC) welcomed the members of the Essex Beef Discussion Group to its campus farm. More than a dozen members enjoyed a networking event and a tour of the facilities with support from four students studying agriculture.

WUC currently hosts two herds. The Regency Red Poll cattle - including bull, Canute Lars M1 - belong to WUC's Farm Estates Manager Charles Clack.

The group's chair, Duncan Padfield of Little Tawney Hall Farm in Romford, welcomed the excellent turn-out and thanked WUC for hosting the event. Members discussed their work within the sector and viewed a new red poll calf.

Duncan said: "This was the Group's first event for two years, and it was great to get together again and visit an interesting unit, as well as meeting some of the students."

Charles Clack said: "We are pleased to have hosted the discussion group on the college farm. It was great to see students being involved and helping too. The new calf arrival was an added surprise as the members arrived!"
