Writtle University College (WUC), near Chelmsford, is celebrating high levels of student satisfaction, following the release of this year's National Student Survey (NSS).
The NSS is an annual, anonymous survey that encourages final year university students to voice an opinion of their course. Their feedback is used to shape the future for fellow students and make real changes to the student experience.
2020 was an unprecedented year. Many universities across the country reported a drop in their NSS ratings, as they adjusted to the impact of COVID-19.
At WUC, feedback remained positive. An impressive 79.5% of students agreed with the statement "overall, I am satisfied with the quality of the course," making Writtle University College the top-rated participating university sector institution in East Anglia for student satisfaction (NSS 2021 Taught Data).
WUC's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tim Middleton, said: "The survey's findings are a testament to our small class sizes, supportive teaching, and caring University College community."
Students' passion for their work is evident, with 85% agreeing that their course is 'intellectually stimulating'. Staff are credited for their support, with nearly 95% of students believing their lecturers are 'good at explaining things'.
Individual programmes also received outstanding results. BSc (Hons) Animal Science had an overall satisfaction rate of 90.91% and 100% of respondents studying Canine-related courses felt their programme challenged them to achieve their best work.
Veterinary physiotherapy students also offered excellent feedback, with 100% crediting their programme of study with providing opportunities to explore ideas or concepts in depth.
WUC's Director of Higher Education, Caroline Flanagan, said: "I'm thrilled that WUC's NSS results are so positive at the end of an exceptionally challenging year for everyone. Staff at WUC are so passionate about their subjects and continually strive to support students through all aspects of their awards. It gives all staff personal satisfaction to see students' recognition of this support through such encouraging results in this survey and I'm proud of all that the students and staff have achieved this year."
