MSc Equine Performance Science students at Writtle University College enjoyed gaining hands-on experience and networking with local industry experts during a recent field trip as part of their Advances in Equine Nutrition module. On April 30th, students and staff met with professional rider and producer, Will Morton, and Rosie King from Saracen Horse Feed.

The students learnt how Saracen Horse Feed conducts professional yard visits to performance riders. Will Morton competes within a number of disciplines, so students enjoyed the opportunity to see a range of horses, all with very different nutritional requirements. Horses were assessed by body condition, their weight, current diet and other factors, and placed on their own specialised feeding plans.

Lecturer Jaime Finch said: "This was an incredible experience for our students. As always, we are grateful to Saracen Horse Feed and Will Morton for allowing our students a variety of opportunities to see professionals in action by putting the science of what we cover in the lecture theatre into practice."
