It's an exciting summer for 3x3 basketball. The UK's first bespoke 3x3 courts celebrate their official launch on Saturday 3rd July.

3x3 basketball is one of the world's fastest growing sports and will be a new addition to the upcoming Olympics and 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Writtle University College in Essex has become the first higher education institution to seriously invest in the game, with ten specially designed courts located on its spacious campus, on the edge of Chelmsford.

WUC Summer Sport Festival launches the new facilities with a free event featuring an all-day DJ, sporting activities, food and drink.

Special guests include basketball freestyling pros. Tarryn Algar, Andrew Wilding and Laszlo Puskas will showcase their favourite tricks and routines on the eye-catching new courts, which feature a vibrant design by artist Molly Hawkins.

Dr Greg Deacon, Head of Sport at Writtle University College, said: "We're proud to launch the UK's first bespoke 3x3 courts. They're one of many new opportunities we are offering students, athletes and our local community."

"Over the coming months, we will be revealing a series of projects, supporting our inclusive, modern sport programmes."

The WUC Summer Festival is a free event, open to members of the public. In addition to freestylers, visitors will be introduced to demos by 3x3 players and enjoy crazy golf, give-it-a-go parkour sessions and more.

A live DJ will be onsite throughout the day, while food outlets will offer hot and cold snacks, soft drinks and craft beers.

The launch highlights the new addition to the University College's existing sporting facilities, which include a gym, extensive playing fields, equestrian facilities, bike trails, sports fields, indoor courts and a reservoir with potential for further outdoor sporting activities. The 3x3 courts will be open to members of the public or clubs via private bookings.
