MSc Animal Welfare and Conservation students at Writtle University College (WUC) were delighted to attend the online conference, Biodiversity Genomics 2020.
Genomics 2020 took place from 5th-9th October 2020 and brought together researchers across the world to celebrate achievements in genome, explore current challenges, and look forward to the coming decade of the application of genomics across the globe.
WUC senior lecturer Dr Angela Thomas said: "This was a fantastic virtual learning opportunity for our students. They heard from international experts, including those sequencing the biodiversity of the UK's flora and fauna, aptly named the Darwin Tree of Life (DToL) project."
As part of their attendance, students were asked to summarise their findings on a Padlet forum. This was an example of blended learning but also an opportunity for students to share their understanding of the material presented by international experts. Emily commented: "It was very interesting hearing how quickly a project can develop when there are many groups of people working on them with different resources. A fact I will take away from it was that the bigger the genome of a plant, the bigger its guard cells usually are!"
