Writtle University College is planning the launch a new female football academy in partnership with Leyton Orient F.C. The initiative aims to open in September 2020 for girls and women aged 16 to 18. Successful applicants will receive eight hours of games and coaching per week while studying year one or two of Writtle University College's BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Sport, Fitness and Personal Training.
Head of FE Sport, Steve Spencer, said: "This is an exciting opportunity for female football players. We're delighted to be working in partnership with the highly regarded Leyton Orient F.C. The academy would offer an strong combination of practical experience and academic excellence. Writtle University College already offers a wide array of sports courses at both College and University level but the academy would open a brand new chapter in women's sport."
In 2015 at the FIFA Women's World Cup, England's bronze medal winning Lionesses captured the attention of the nation. With nearly 2.5 million registered players, football is now the top participation sport for women and girls in England.
