Writtle University College (WUC) is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Chair of the Board of Governors. Mr Dan Hewitt's role commences in March 2020, when he takes over from Mr Jonathan Swan, who was appointed as the Interim Chair in August 2018.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Tim Middleton said: "We are delighted to be welcoming Dan Hewitt to WUC. His business knowledge and understanding of finance and marketing will be instrumental as we continue to build upon the University College's successes within Further and Higher Education. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Jonathan Swan for his hard work and enthusiastic support during his time as Chair."

Dan is the Head of Agriculture and Sustainability at Kettle Foods, where he has worked since 2016. He started his career in the RAF and subsequently moved to the agricultural and agri-tech sectors. A business owner with wide-ranging board experience, Dan served as a Non-Executive Director with the Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board (AHDB) from 2012 to 2018.

Dan has successfully produced multi-million pound projects and is an experienced director, leader and mentor. He enjoys using his positive attitude and analytical skills to deliver great outcomes and has managed consumer insight, advertising and sales for national and global FMCG brands. In his spare time Dan enjoys running, kayaking and clay pigeon shooting.

Dan commented: "I am delighted to be working with Tim and the team at WUC, picking up from Jonathan's great work. I would hope to bring some different ways of thinking and help Writtle continue being the first choice for students following FE and HE courses that lead into exciting and dynamic careers. Helping set the strategic 2030 vision with the Exec, staff, students and Board will be challenging but I am confident that I can add value to the team while also being respectful of the 126 year heritage of the institution."
