Writtle University College’s MA Landscape Architecture and Garden Design studio has launched a new project in collaboration with Chelmsford City Council. Students will propose a new masterplan for the country park, containing Sandford Mill, in Chelmsford.

The aim of the project is to develop an interlinked and resilient blue/green infrastructure. It will serve the City of Chelmsford’s river systems and wider ecological assets whilst supporting the City’s sustainable development. The Council would like to repurpose Sandford Mill as a visitor destination for the region.

On Tuesday 7th October, students visited the site with city planners. Their will work on strategic and conceptual ideas to present back to the Council.

Writtle University College’s Dr Saruhan Mosler said: “We are delighted to be working with Chelmsford City Council. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to use their professional skills to make a lasting and positive difference to the local area. Sandford Mill is in a beautiful setting and we look forward to creating a popular visitor destination that safeguards Chelmsford’s ecological assets.”
