Are you looking for an exciting and rewarding voluntary role? Writtle University College (WUC) in Essex is seeking to appoint five new independent governors and a new Chair of Governors.
As the terms of office for some of our long-serving governors come to an end, we need talented individuals to join the governing body and help realise the WUC mission: Transforming lives and the environment through inspiring education.
This is your chance to make an impact on many hundreds of students and to be associated with a highly respected institution.
The Governing Body works closely with the Vice-Chancellor, staff and students to shape the future of the University College. Its members have the final say on matters of fundamental importance to WUC.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Tim Middleton says: “These are interesting and fulfilling voluntary roles. Our new governors and Chair will help us to strengthen WUC’s position as a high quality provider of higher and further education.
“We look forward to welcoming new board members, who will share our vision and contribute to our strategic direction.”
Established in 1893, WUC is a specialist provider of college-level and degree-level courses, offering qualifications in agriculture, horticulture, animal science, equine, sports and design. WUC’s beautiful 220-hectare estate, set two miles from the city of Chelmsford, is around 35 minutes from London.
In 2015, WUC celebrated receiving degree awarding powers and in 2016 was awarded University College status. In the last three years, over six million pounds have been invested in facilities.
Future governors will draw on their own skills and experiences to support WUC's continued development. Expertise in human resources, higher education, estates and property management, audit, finance and accountancy and strategic change management will be particularly welcome.
The time commitment for independent governors is estimated to be at least one day per month. The Chair of Governors’ position will comprise around three days per month.
