Fiona Duke, from Chelmsford, who completed the Level 3 Art & Design – Interiors course at Writtle College last year is featured in the March issue of ‘Real Homes’ magazine. Fi, who now runs her own successful Interior Design company, is pictured on the front page of the magazine as well as having an eight page spread inside.
Fi originally completed C&G Levels 1 and 2 in Creative Techniques in Interiors at Writtle, whilst working part-time in HR. After being made redundant in 2014, she decided to set up her own Interior Design business and study for the C&G Level 3 Certificate.
Through her business, she advises a range of clients on their interiors. Projects range from design consultations, to help with styling, to full project management. Work includes 2D and 3D design drawings to assist with layout options. This can be for reworking of an existing space or defining new plans for building work. She also offers concept and mood boards for detailing how a design will look on completion, sourcing of specific items for new designs, to full project management for major reworking such as bathroom and kitchen refits and loft conversions.
Fi said: “Being featured in Real Homes has been a wonderful opportunity and to get the cover shoot has been an added bonus! Seeing it on the shelves has been a real high point in my design career. The courses I took at Writtle definitely gave me a great understanding of how to work with a client brief and the amount of work involved for every project. It was an excellent training ground for the real thing.”
Cathy Barnard, Course Manager and Lecturer in Interiors at Writtle College commented: “Fi was an extremely competent and committed student who achieved Distinctions across the board for all her assignments. She produced some excellent work, and will definitely succeed with her business!”
