Writtle College has a limited number of places available on its college courses, including apprenticeships, starting this September.
The College – which has been providing land-based education for more than 120 years – offers a wide range of alternative courses for students who are about to receive their GCSE results.
Based on a beautiful 220-hectare estate, Writtle College is one of the oldest specialist institutions in the UK and offers courses in Agriculture, Animal Studies, Art and Design, Countryside and Environment, Equine, Floristry, Horticulture, Sport and Veterinary Nursing.
Writtle’s courses provide hands-on practical experience, in addition to the required level of theory and classroom activities. This gives students a unique opportunity when studying towards their qualifications and provides an alternative to staying on at school and A-Levels.
Lesley Graham, Vice Principal Academic for Writtle College, gave the following advice for students and parents: “Getting your GCSE results is always a worrying time and it's really important that you consider your next steps carefully. Studying something you enjoy doing and are passionate about makes a huge difference and here at Writtle we've got some excellent courses for you to choose from. Whether your aim is to go into the world of work or even on to university after College, we are able to help you achieve your goals.
“Students who decide to study with us will achieve industry recognised qualifications and all our courses include real, hands-on experience, as well as plenty of opportunities to practice your skills in our industry-standard facilities. We encourage anyone who is looking for the next step after getting their GCSE results to get in contact with us to discuss their options.”
The College recently launched a campaign to raise awareness of land-based careers to secondary school students, which can be viewed on their YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/writtlecollege
