A team of Writtle College students and staff have won a Silver Gilt award for their display at this year’s Hampton Court Flower Show.
The exhibit, based on a Mary Poppins theme, included four designs, which consisted of an arrangement for the front entrance of the theatre, a hat to be worn during the show, a wired presentation bouquet to be given to the female star of the show and a table arrangement for the after-show party on the opening night.
The materials used were preserved stachys leaves, semperviviums, preserved seed heads, spray roses, cottage garden roses and trailing house plants.
Elaine Thackray, Lecturer in Floristry at Writtle, commented: “After a hectic and emotional week the Floristry team are so pleased to have received such wonderful recognition for all their hard work. We are all so passionate about the design and can't wait to spend the rest of the week talking about it with the public.”
The design is the result of teamwork from a group of Level 2 and Level 3 Diploma Floristry students, who also elected the theme.
Together with support from college lecturers, and with weeks of preparation, the Floristry team of students and staff brought together the stunning floral design at Hampton Court in just a day.
The exhibit can be found in the Floral Design Marquee at stand number 351 where Floristry staff and students will be available each day until Sunday 5 July.
