A barn owl box built by pupils attending Writtle College on the Special Schools Projects programme has been installed on campus.
The design was provided by The Barn Owl Trust and incorporates a nesting chamber, roosting chamber and an exercise platform.
The box was one of two houses built by pupils attending Writtle College on the Special Schools Projects programme of vocational experience. The second will be erected soon and both boxes will be linked into the College’s wireless nest box camera system.
Paul Hill, Special Schools Co-ordinator at the College, said: “This is part of an ongoing plan to develop the area surrounding Kings Lodge Campus into a wildlife haven highlighting good practice and illustrating simple ideas to promote wildlife.”
