Established in 1893, Writtle University College (WUC) has been producing leaders in the land-based industries and organisations for 130 years.
Writtle University College is one of the oldest specialist institutions in the UK and offers a range of land-based, animal, sport and health courses at various levels of academic study including Postgraduate, Undergraduate, Further Education, Short Courses and Apprenticeships. We also provide students with the options of being able to study certain courses on a part-time basis.

Our students have also participated in the National Students Survey and have ranked us in the Top 12 Nationally and the No 1 in the East of England for Overall Satisfaction with teaching.

Great facilities
On our beautiful campus, close to the city of Chelmsford we host a wide range of specialist facilities that students will use throughout their chosen course. This includes an impressive dedicated equine centre, an animal centre, centre for sport and health, as well as a wide range of teaching and social facilities. In 2023 we will see the development of our Lordship Campus to provide a complete refurbishment of our science laboratories as well as a new dedicated canine centre.

We attract students locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Our facilities and resources, based on our picturesque campus of approximately 150 hectares, are used to enhance the student learning experience, enabling them to gain both theory and practical skills whilst studying with us. The unique location of our campus means we are also just two miles from the city of Chelmsford, just 35 minutes from Central London (to the West) and 35 minutes away from the coastal town of Southend-on-Sea (to the East).
