Welding for Beginners

About the Course

During this 20 hour course you will be instructed in techniques that will allow you to develop the skills required to carry out basic welding tasks. Topics covered will include:

  • Health and safety of welding processes and equipment
  • Oxy-acetylene welding and cutting (O/A)
  • Manual metal arc welding (MMA)
  • Metal active gas welding (MIG/MAG)
  • Bronze welding, macro-etching
150 x 75 1.6mm, 3mm and 5mm mild steel plates are available each week. Participants with specific projects in mind may prefer to bring their own materials to use. Whilst in the workshop participants must wear non-nylon flame retardant coveralls and safety boots with steel toe-caps.

This course will give you the confidence to tackle small welding tasks; it will not give you enough experience to become a professional welder. If there is a welding element to your job role or you are a keen DIY enthusiast this course is perfect for you.

A Writtle University College Certificate of Attendance will be issued on completion of the course.
