Welding for Beginners

About the Course

During this 4 day comprehensive, practical and theoretical course you will be instructed in the founding aspects of 3 major welding processes. You will gain hands on practical experience of welding various joints and material thickness, the techniques involved and the recognition of defects along with correct finishes. Demonstrations of these and some associated processes will be an integral part of the training. This course has a degree of informality without compromise to a high level of tuition which will satisfy requirements for the Corporate apprentice and DIY/Hobbyist alike. Topics covered will include:

  • Health and safety of welding processes and equipment
  • Oxy-acetylene welding and cutting (O/A)
  • Manual Metal Arc welding (MMA)
  • Metal Inert Gas welding (MIG
  • Bronze welding, macro-etching
150 x 75 1.6mm, 3mm and 5mm mild steel plates are available. Candidates with specific projects in mind may prefer to bring their own materials to use.

A Writtle University College Certificate of Attendance will be issued on completion of the course.

Entry Requirements

Candidates are required to bring their own PPE. We are governed by Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations therefore you will not be allowed to start the course without wearing non-nylon flame retardant coveralls and safety boots with steel toe caps.

Useful Information

Free parking is available on campus; a permit will be issued and should be clearly displayed.

Tea and coffee making facilities are available, please bring a packed lunch and any other refreshments.
