Welding Metal Inert Gas (MIG)

About the Course

This 2 day practical course aimed at those with previous welding experience is designed to give instruction on topics related to metal inert gas welding, commonly known as MIG or GMAW in the USA.

Aimed at candidates already competent in the area of downhand and horizontal/vertical welding techniques this course will include vertical and overhead applications using this welding process. Also incorporated is a greater learning of the associated electrical and metallurgic aspects of the machine and weldments respectively. Topics covered will include:

  • Health and safety
  • Principles of the MIG welding process
  • Identification of controls and settings
  • AC/DC power supply and their application
  • Types of filler wire
  • Identification of shielding gases
  • Joint designs application and preparation
  • Weld fault investigation and rectification
A Writtle University College Certificate of Attendance will be issued on completion of the course.

Entry Requirements

Existing experience is required, as a minimum attendance of our Welding for Beginners course.

Candidates are required to bring their own PPE. We are governed by Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations therefore you will not be allowed to start the course without wearing non-nylon flame retardant coveralls and safety boots with steel toe caps.
