About the Course
The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 states “It is an offence to intentionally or recklessly take, damage, destroy or interfere with a nest of any wild bird whilst it is in use or being built.”
With this is mind we try to avoid running these courses during the main nesting season; between March and August. An environmental risk assessment is completed prior to the course ensuring nests are not disturbed.
This one day integrated training and assessment programme is for experienced tractor drivers who wish to use an Arm Mounted Flail Cutter. During the assessment process candidates are asked to identify certain tractor instruments / controls and perform maintenance checks. Topics covered will include:

- Site safety
- Machinery operation
- Hedge trimming
- Verge cutting
- Ditch or dyke cutting
Entry Requirements
The course is aimed at competent tractor drivers; candidates should be certain of their ability before attending as they are required to sign and return an Experienced Tractor Driving Operator Declaration.
We are governed by Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations therefore candidates will not be allowed to start the course without wearing steel toe capped boots or shoes, gloves and suitable protective clothing which provides full cover for arms and legs. We strongly recommend also wearing a high visibility vest.
