When it comes to accessing and completing an undergraduate degree, care experienced students face significant challenges. Best estimates indicate that only 12% of those who leave care enrol at university by the age of 23, compared to 40% of non-care leavers. What's more, care leavers are a third more likely to drop out of their studies. (UUK, October 2019).
Writtle University College recognises that care leavers and care experienced young people require tailored and effective support to access and succeed in Higher Education. We work independently and alongside external bodies such as the Office for Students' Make Happen, the Essex branch of the Uni Connect (formerly NCOP) programme to raise aspiration and attainment levels of care leavers and care experienced students. We are committed to providing a package of support which ensures that care leavers and care experienced students are supported to achieve their full potential at all stages of their student journey (beginning at the pre-entry stage and up to graduation and beyond).
