In the SU the social officers are always busy thinking up ideas to make sure your time at Writtle is as fun as possible. From Freshers Fest to theme nights, day trips, pub crawls, film nights and the three balls that happen each year we promise there will be some event that will cater for you.
The Baa
Nearly all the social events that happen on campus take place in The Baa. The Baa is a great place where students can get away from the stresses of studying. Be it just going for down for a chat with mates between lectures, a pint in the evening or one of the big SU Monday nights. The Baa has a brand new fully kitted out dancefloor this year as part of the refurb that it is undergoing. There is also a pool table and a cinema projector screen for live sports and movies. The booth around the dancefloor and big tables make it the ideal space to sit and eat or chat with mates.
Freshers Fest
The first week of your year at Writtle is dedicated to you socialising and getting to know the campus and Chelmsford. Events that go on are; Freshers Fair, themed party nights, inflatable days, film nights, events in Chelmsford such as going to EVOKE (Chelmsford’s no.1 nightclub) who we are partnered with, Jump Street and Bowling and then the freshers ball on the Friday night.
Winter Ball
This is the ball to celebrate the first half of the year. Usually held at the end of first semester or in Re-Freshers Week in January! One of our more formal nights!
RAG Events
The RAG officers work closely with the Social Officers to come up with enjoyable events for everyone and at the same time raise money for charity. In the past, there have been RAG weeks, BBQ’s, Quizzes, Parties and every year there is Moulshams 11, our biggest pub crawl of the year!
Summer Ball
Summer ball is by far the biggest event of the year! It celebrates finishing your year at Writtle and the end of exams. We always put on a massive show and have acts such as Chase and Status, the Hoosiers and Radio 1 DJ’s as well as loads of fairground rides!
Monday Night SU Events (MEGA MONDAYS) and Wednesdays
Monday is the big party night on campus! Throughout the year the social officers will host a themed event down the Baa every Monday night! These go from 90’s nights, Luau parties to Hypnotist nights. Wednesday nights are town nights! On Wednesdays we regularly run busses to EVOKE 2.0 for the biggest student night in Chelmsford! Writtle students also get free entry and VIP on Wednesdays and Saturdays! If you have any theme night ideas speak to the social officers!
Weekends
If you stay on campus over the weekend, the SU are beginning to run more and more activities and trips such as day trips to London, theaters and Jump street. The baa is also open on Saturdays from 3pm to make the most out of the live sport on offer. The SU also run events such as ice skating, lazer quest and sports days on campus to keep you occupied. If you don’t fancy going out to town on a Wednesday night, EVOKE also offer free entry and VIP to Writtle students for their Saturday Club!
