Post Harvest Technology Unit (PHT)

Over the years through commercial consultancy work, Writtle University has established an excellent reputation in the fields of Postharvest, sustainability and supply chain management, particularly in relation to cold storage and international transport.

The objectives of the Unit are to engage in teaching, short courses, research and consultancy work.

Current research is focusing upon disease reduction in stored fruits and vegetables using non-chemical treatments and the pre-harvest treatment of cut flowers to improve postharvest longevity.

Potato, strawberries, apple, mango, avocado, pineapple, cut flowers and medical marijuana are among the wide range of species studied to date.
