Livestock Husbandry - A Basic Introduction

About the Course

Cattle (Dairy and Beef), Pigs and Sheep

This course will provide you with a basic understanding of the welfare requirements of farm livestock and production systems. You will gain valuable information and practical experience on the tasks required to keep livestock healthy. Topics covered will include:

Behaviour and Handling Techniques

Health Checks and Body Condition Scoring

Feeding and Nutrition

Legislative Requirements and Animal Welfare

Personal Health & Safety

A Writtle University College Certificate of Attendance will be issued on the successful completion of a practical assessment.

Entry Requirements

PPE - overalls, or water-proofs & steel toe-capped boots.

Participants must be over 16 years of age.

By making a booking you are declaring yourself medically fit to participate in the course.

Useful Information

Participants will require note taking equipment.

Free parking is available on campus; a permit will be issued and should be clearly displayed.

Participants are advised to bring a packed lunch. Morning and afternoon refreshments are provided.
