About the Course

This course will enable students to gain a sound grounding in domestic Interior Design. The Level 1 award runs concurrently with the Level 2 Certificate.

Areas of Study

This course has been designed to enable learners to gain the basic skills required to develop an understanding of colour, texture and pattern on walls, flooring and furniture. It also includes sketchbook work and how to present mood boards and sample boards. There are 2 art based modules, Colour Theory, and Pattern and Print, which will be pre-sented as a portfolio of samples in a sketchbook format.

Drawing board skills will be taught to industry standard, together with a range of presentation techniques to enable the student to produce three room design schemes over the year. These schemes are to be a kitchen with living room, a home based office, and a bedroom with en-suite shower room.

The student will gain an understanding of the positioning of furniture, lighting and services, as well as a basic knowledge of contextual influences relating to each room scheme.

Method of Assessment

Assessment is continuous throughout the course. Some study outside of College will be required in order to complete the designs. Approximately 8 -10 hours min per week.

After Completion of Your Course...

Employment opportunities
Students could be self employed as a designer, could work in a design shop or with a practising designer.

Useful Information

How the course is graded
Students will be able to achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade which will be recorded on their C&G Certificate.

Additional costs (to tuition and miscellaneous fee) specific to course
Approx £70 for materials, sketchbooks, portfolio folder etc.
An equipment list will be provided at the start of the course.

This course is not suitable for under 18s as it is 1 day a week and under 18s are required to be in full time education.
