About the Course

This one day course is aimed at small businesses, self-employed individuals and property owners with larger gardens. During the day participants will gain valuable knowledge on the safe use, operation and basic daily maintenance of various garden machinery including line trimmers, brushcutters, hedgecutters and rotary mowers.

A Writtle University College Certificate of Attendance will be issued on completion of the course.

Entry Requirements

We are governed by Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations therefore participants will not be allowed to start the course without wearing steel toe capped boots or shoes, gloves and suitable protective clothing which provides full cover for arms and legs. We strongly recommend also wearing a high visibility vest.

Participants are required to bring their own Personal Protective Equipment, but if this presents a problem we can provide:

  • Eye protection, safety glasses or goggles to EN16:1995
  • Face Shield or Visor
  • Ear Defenders
  • Gloves - adequate to protect hands against flying debris
By making a booking you are declaring yourself medically fit to participate in this course.

Useful Information

Participants are encouraged to bring their own machines in “as used” condition along with operator manuals and any spares eg air filters, blades, etc. We can then work on a “real” situation and do some routine servicing.

Free parking is available on campus; a permit will be issued and should be clearly displayed.

Please bring a packed lunch and all refreshments needed for the day.
