Felling and Processing Trees over 380mm Refresher
About the Course
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) recommend all chainsaw operators have regular refresher / update training to ensure they work to industry best practice and maintain their levels of competence. The suggested intervals for such training are:
• Occasional users - every 2 to 3 years
• Full time users - every 5 years
• Occasional users - every 2 to 3 years
• Full time users - every 5 years
Entry Requirements
This intensive practical course requires a good level of physical fitness and an ability to study written technical information.
Participants must already hold a Felling and Processing Trees over 380mm qualification.
We are governed by Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations therefore participants will not be allowed to start any chainsaw course without chainsaw boots and gloves.
• Chainsaw gloves - approved pictogram to BS EN 381-7
• Chainsaw boots - BS EN ISO 17249 bearing a shield depicting a chainsaw to show compliance with EN381-3, spats are no longer allowed.
EQUIPMENT LIST FOR FELLING OVER 380MM
Chainsaw with 15inch bar preferred, 16inch acceptable (insurance requirement, above this length is not acceptable)
Fuel & oil in approved container(s)
Filing kit, for sharpening
Saw tool kit
Felling lever; if possible
3 x high lift wedges
Sledge hammer
Winch 1.5ton SWL or greater with appropriate strops (can be provided)
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Hard hat assembly - with ear defenders, mesh visor (or safety glasses conforming to EN166)
Chainsaw gloves
Chainsaw trousers - type C
Chainsaw boots
Personal first aid kit/ large wound dressing
Whistle
Wet weather clothing
All equipment and PPE must conform to relevant CE approvals and be in a serviceable condition.
