City & Guilds have worked together with industry partners in highlighting the importance of maintaining a competent workforce that can demonstrate up-to-date knowledge and skills within their day to day working practices.
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) recommend all chainsaw operators have regular refresher / update training to ensure they work to industry best practice and maintain their levels of competence. The suggested intervals for such training are:

- Occasional users - every 2 to 3 years
- Full time users - every 5 years
Entry Requirements
This intensive practical course requires a good level of physical fitness and an ability to study written technical information.
Participants must already hold a Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-cutting qualification.
We are governed by Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations therefore participants will not be allowed to start the course without the correct Personal Protective Equipment which should conform to CE/EN standards.

- Chainsaw trousers
- Chainsaw gloves – approved pictogram to BS EN 381-7
- Chainsaw boots – BS EN ISO 17249 bearing a shield depicting a chainsaw to show compliance with EN381-3, spats are no longer allowed
- Chainsaw helmet with eye and ear protection

Free parking is available on campus; a permit will be issued and should be clearly displayed.
