Staff Development
Writtle University College actively promotes the development of staff through a variety of internal and external courses; allowing all staff access to essential qualifications*, the opportunity to broaden experience and the chance to learn new and valuable skills. We also run an in-depth induction programme which covers a welcome from a Senior Management Team member, information about the College, Health and Safety briefing, Information Services and Technology Induction and Child Protection Awareness Training. You will be assigned a buddy to help you through your first few months in your new role at the University College.

Pension Provision
Professional support staff may be eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). Further details are provided on joining by the HR Department.
Academic staff may be eligible to join the Teachers' Pension Scheme (TPS), this is a final salary scheme. Further details are provided on joining by the HR Department.
Sick Pay
Subject to the provisions of the University College's Absence and Wellbeing Policy and Procedure, after successful completion of probationary reviews, employees are contractually entitled to time off from work, with pay, due to illness. Further details are supplied on the University College intranet.
Catering Facilities
A full cafeteria service, for breakfast, lunch and tea is available during the year at The Garden Room, which offers a full range of hot and cold meals, sandwiches and snacks. This is open to both staff and students. Staff may also use the The Baa or the Thyme Out Café which is on site.
Childcare Facilities
If you have a child / children aged between three months and school age, a place may be available, provided by Kiddi Caru day nursery, at a specially negotiated discounted rate for staff. The nursery is purpose built with its own specially designed children's garden, interior design features and tropical fish unit. A team of qualified and experienced teachers and nursery nurses provide a happy, homely environment where children's needs always come first.
Annual Leave
Full-time professional support staff are entitled to 25 days annual leave increasing to 30 days, after five years continuous service with Writtle University College, pro-rata for part-time staff. Plus statutory bank holidays.
Full-time academic staff are entitled to 35 days annual leave, pro-rata for part-time staff, plus statutory bank holidays.
Gym Membership
Gym membership is available for our onsite gym at a subsidised fee. Further details can be requested from wucsport@writtle.ac.uk.
Employee Assistance Programme
For an independent counselling service staff can make direct contact with a Health Assured. The University College pays for this service annually, staff can have up to 8 face to face counselling sessions at no cost to themselves. No names are disclosed to the University College so complete confidentiality is assured. All telephone counselling is free of charge. Health Assured also provides; a Stress helpline, referral to serious illness and accident support, tax advice, legal advice (the EAP will not provide employment law advice), elder care, childcare and medical information. Further details are provided at induction by the HR Department.
On-site Car Parking
The University College offers free on-site parking to all staff. Parking permits are required to be displayed.
Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Leave and Pay
Subject to the provisions of the University College's Work Life Balance Policy and Procedure, employees may be entitled to enhanced contractual pay, when taking Maternity, Paternity and Adoption leave. Further details are supplied on the University College intranet.
Home-reared/grown meat or produce purchase
From time to time we have a selection of meat produce available for purchase from our own breed of livestock, further details are provided at induction by the HR Department.
Staff rest room (main building)
There is a staff rest room available on site available for use during the working day.
Multi Faith Room
There is a Multi Faith Room on site which provides a welcoming space for faith group meetings and quite contemplation. We have a diverse student and staff community representing both those who have particular beliefs and allegiances as well as those of no faith.
