Bathing, Plaiting, Pulling and Trimming - An Introduction to Showing Horses

About the Course

This course includes a mix of theory and practical tasks which will provide you with the essential knowledge and skills required to help prepare your horse for a show. You will be shown a variety of techniques including shampooing, rinsing, drying, plaiting, pulling and trimming your horse's mane and tail.

Topics covered will include:

  • Bathing a Horse*
  • Reasons for plaiting and different styles
  • Use of Equipment
  • Health and safety
*This element of the course can provide an opportunity to get your BHS Equine Excellence Skills Record signed. (Assuming you undertake this activity to the required standard).

Entry Requirements

Minimum age 14 (Parental consent required).

Please come appropriately dressed for an equine yard with an approved riding hat, gloves and boots.

By making a booking you are declaring yourself medically fit to participate in the course.

Useful Information

Free parking is available on campus; a permit will be issued and should be clearly displayed.

Tea and coffee making facilities are available, please bring any other refreshments.
