About the Course

This training programme is aimed at those who wish to progress from the basic principles of horse care achieved in BHS Stage One

Whether working with Riding School horses or thoroughbreds, holders of this qualification can prove they have the essential skills to work as an assistant groom at any yard.

The course will cover Learning Outcomes 1 - 11 as listed in the The BHS Equine Excellence Pathway log book.

Holders of the BHS Stage Two certificate are able to proceed on to BHS Stage Three. A full and detailed syllabus may be obtained from the British Horse Society website.

Registration and examination fees are paid separately and directly to BHS. BHS examinations must be booked no later than two weeks prior to the exam date.

Entry Requirements

Minimum age 14 (Parental consent required)

Minimum age to do BHS Stage 2 exams is 16 - BHS Stage 1 is a pre-requisite for this BHS examination.

Please come appropriately dressed for an equine yard.

By making a booking you are declaring yourself medically fit to participate in the course

Useful Information

For an additional fee, a selection of practical workshops are available to support the course. These sessions will include Riding, Loading and Unloading Horses, Lunging, Bathing and Plaiting and are necessary for your Coach Endorsements. They will not be covered in this course but tacking up is included.
