BHS Stage 1 - Care and Silver Challenge Award

About the Course

Our training programme will provide you with the basic principles of horse care and how to safely and efficiently undertake daily tasks. This will include routine grooming, mucking out, bedding down, cleaning and adjusting tack and providing food and water.

The course offers foundation knowledge and skills in preparation for the British Horse Society (BHS) Stage One examination, not included in the cost.

Also includes some ongoing assessment for BHS Challenge Awards.

Holders of the BHS Stage One certificate are able to proceed on to BHS Stage Two. A full and detailed syllabus may be obtained from the British Horse Society website.

Registration and examination fees are paid separately and directly to BHS. Examinations must be booked no later than two weeks prior to the exam date.

Entry Requirements

Minimum age 14 (Parental consent required).

Please come appropriately dressed for an equine yard.

By making a booking you are declaring yourself medically fit to participate in the course.

Useful Information

For an additional fee, a selection of practical workshops are available to support the course. These sessions will include Riding, Lunging, Bathing and Plaiting.

Membership and examination fees are paid directly to the British Horse Society (BHS).
