BHS Silver Challenge Award - Ride Safe

About the Course

The Ride Safe Silver Challenge Award is required to be completed as part of the BHS Stage 1 Ride.

The course offers foundation knowledge and skills in preparation for the BHS Ride Safe examination, not included in the cost.

The Silver Challenge Ride Safe Award covers:
  • Checks to make before setting off
  • How to ride with the reins in one hand
  • How to ride in an enclosed arena with other riders
  • Riding out on a road
  • How to ask other road users to slow down or stop
  • Entry Requirements

    Minimum age 14 (Parental consent required).

    In line with BHS training centre standards and due to the nature of the horses at the University College, we ask that students weigh no more than 13 stone (82.5kg) which includes your PPE.

    Candidates must be able to Walk, Trot and Canter.

    Please come appropriately dressed for an Equine yard.

    Candidates are required to attend all riding sessions dressed in appropriate outdoor riding wear, an approved riding hat and gloves.

    Note taking equipment would be advisable.

    By making a booking you are declaring yourself medically fit to participate in the course.

    Useful Information

    Free parking is available on campus; a permit will be issued and should be clearly displayed.

    Tea and coffee making facilities are available, please bring any other refreshments.
