Why did you choose to study at Writtle University College?
After thoroughly enjoying and completing a Sheep Husbandry Course at the College in 2011, I discussed my future career plans with a lecturer from the School of Sport, Equine and Animal Science. In addition to feeling very welcomed and comfortable on the course, the option of studying at Writtle College allowed me to live at home and help my parents set up a farming business. Furthermore, Writtle College has a good reputation for its Animal Science department with respect to teaching, provision of resources and student satisfaction.

What does Writtle University College mean to you?
From what I have learnt, feeling comfortable in your working environment is an essential aspect to success, which is what Writtle College offered me from start to finish. I made some great friends with like-minded people and enjoyed my studies even through the stressful deadline and exam periods. This was my stepping-stone to my goal of becoming a veterinarian.

What did you particularly enjoy about your course?
I loved studying all of my modules from behaviour to nutrition to biological processes, but if I had to choose one topic it would probably be the anatomy and physiology modules, as I love fact-based learning. Additionally, there were many practical dissections to put our theory into practice for this module.

My Current Job
Begin my studies in the Graduate Accelerated BSc Veterinary Medicine (BVetMed) degree in September 2014 at the Royal Veterinary College. Completing the Animal Science degree at Writtle College has provided me with a firm background in animal biology, health and welfare due to the programmes’ broad but thorough teaching style. I will be able to transfer my learning, researching and other academic skills, with the prior knowledge from my Animal Science degree to aid the next intense four years at the RVC! Furthermore, I have made great connections with Writtle’s friendly staff and made the most of brilliant opportunities for additional work experience within the animal and research industries.

Future Plans
To complete the BVetMed course and qualify as a veterinarian. My goal for the time being is to work in mixed practice on qualifying, but as I enjoy research work those plans may change!
