A new foal is the latest addition to Writtle University College’s family.

The assertive and cheeky chestnut colt was born on April 12th at Lordships Stud to university mare Tilucienne and the promising young AES licensed showjumping stallion 'Balou For Pleasure'. The latter is owned by Lisa Maynard and Chris Jackson.

Excitingly, the grand dam on the sire’s side 'Lordships La Rochelle' was also bred by Lordships Stud before being sold as a young horse.

Assistant Stud Groom Emily Southwick was extremely grateful to all of the students and staff who assisted during the sitting up period. It fell across the Easter break meaning several volunteered for extra dates during their time off.

Students Ellie and Rude, who were present at the birth, drew up a short list of potential names. The colt will be registered as ‘Lordships Bare Necessities’ in keeping with this year’s Disney theme and an additional name will be chosen in late April, following a popular vote among the students.

Equine lecturer, Caroline Farr, said: “We are all very excited to see what he gets up to later in life and for the immediate future he will be a part of the continuing education of both our Further and Higher education students as part of their lectures and practical yard duties.”
