Congratulations to Landscape Architecture student Michael Ekers who has won the Best Student Portfolio Award with his project 'INDULGE ME'.
The Landscape Institute is the chartered body for the landscape profession. The Awards showcase the exceptional work of the many different types of landscape professionals including landscape designers, managers, planners and researchers.
The LI Awards are presented to landscape professionals in recognition of their outstanding work, to encourage excellence and to applaud those working on the most innovative projects.
Michael said, "I'm delighted to have won this award. The portfolio explores how digital, analogue, and hybrid forms of representation can be used to communicate landscape’s intangible qualities – the experience of landscape. Visual representation, however engaging, must also be capable of demonstrating design intent. The balance between suggestion and prescription is explored throughout, with images drawn from undergraduate modules being melded with other visual resources to activate and enhance the narrative".
Judges said: 'INDULGE ME' demonstrates a great degree of creativity, both in the topics developed and in the way of Communicating ideas'
Steve Terry, Senior Lecturer in Design at Writtle University College said, “The teaching team are thrilled by Michael’s success in this award category which showcases his innovative approaches to both Landscape architecture and garden design. Mike developed novel approaches to site interrogation and found ways to synthesise conceptual methodologies and theoretical approaches to the design process. The evolution of his ideas and approaches to design are evident in his portfolio of works, in his writing, model making and drawings making his communication of deep and complex ideas both accessible and aspirational. We continue to enjoy working alongside Michael on his MA Landscape Architecture.”
Michael is currently a Postgraduate student at WUC studying MA Landscape Architecture.
