Harriet Wiltshire went through Clearing for her Integrated Masters in Veterinary Physiotherapy at Writtle University College. The 22-year-old, who lives near Writtle, has just finished the second year of the four-year course and here she explains how Clearing enabled her to take a shortcut to her vocation.
“My original plan was to study a BSc in human physiotherapy and then branch into Veterinary Physiotherapy, but, because it was the final year for NHS funding onto physiotherapy, there was an over-subscription to courses and places were given to students who scored exceptionally high in their results - I'd done fairly well but not well enough.
“I phoned Writtle University College immediately after realising there were no places left in the UK on human physiotherapy courses and I talked to one of the Veterinary Physiotherapy lecturers, who was so helpful, friendly and professional.
“I got my place 12 days before Semester A of my first year began! I've always known I wanted to work with animals so I saw Clearing as a fast track route to that long-term goal.
“I love how specialised and different our course is to any others that I know of and I feel lucky to have been given the opportunity at such a late stage.
“I'd like to work as part of a sports or performance rehabilitation team when I graduate to get some experience, then become self-employed in the long-term and use what I've learnt to work for myself.
“I think Writtle University College has some of the most stunning campus settings and easily some of the best sunsets I've ever seen! The facilities are also second-to-none which is so important for animal and land-based courses.
“My advice to students who don't get the right grades is definitely don't panic! Have a rough idea of a back up plan and do lots of research - it's not going to be the end of the world. Sometimes plan B works out even better than plan A would have done.”
