Writtle University College graduate, James Lanwarne of Lanwarne Landscapes, has won a Silver Gilt and Best Construction in Show at this year's BBC Gardeners' World Live.

The former WUC Garden Design student, who is originally from Essex, competed against five other teams as part of the APL (Association of Professional Landscapers) Show Garden competition.

The Contemporary Bee and Butterfly Garden is Lanwarne Landscapes' first Show Garden and they were over the moon with the result. Speaking about his achievement at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, James said: “I've always wanted to exhibit a Show Garden at a high profile event like BBC Gardeners' World Live. I will always be grateful to Writtle University College for teaching me a new outlook on design and the landscape industry.

“Writtle have played a very significant role in the development of my career and in supporting this achievement. I'm very excited about the future and look forward to continued work with Writtle on new projects and ideas."

The Show Garden was broadcast on Gardeners World on Friday 16th June, with BBC presenter and Garden Designer, Joe Swift, referring to Martin Lines (Designer at Lanwarne Landscapes) as an 'emerging talent', who we 'may see at Chelsea one day'. Joe also complemented the garden finishing, referring to it as 'immaculate'.

The garden, which was part sponsored by Writtle University College, was designed for a couple who work long hours and have an active social life, so need a relaxing outdoor space. It includes an outdoor dining area, fire pit and living picture planted with specially grown moss, which was a huge hit with Joe Swift and the public. The garden is designed to encourage wildlife, including timber posts incorporating bee and insect houses and bubble fountains that act as both a water feature and safe places for the bees and insects to drink.

This isn't Lanwarne Landscapes first time at BBC Gardeners World live. Last year Lanwarne Landscapes and, in house garden designer, Martin Lines won Gold and Best Border in Show in the Beautiful Borders category.
