All graduating students attending the Graduation Ceremony must wear academic robes, (gown, cap/mortar board and hood) of the University of Essex appropriate to the degree being conferred, if they wish to be presented.
Academic Robes must be ordered directly from the supplier, Ede and Ravenscroft and can be placed from June 2016. We recommend ordering early and well in advance of the deadline as orders placed less than 21 days prior to the ceremony cannot be guaranteed. Please print out your order confirmation and take it with you on the day – your robes will be ready for collection from the Main Hall at the College.
Graduation ceremonies are formal occasions and as such appropriate smart/formal dress is required. For gentlemen this should be a shirt, tie, smart trousers and shoes. For ladies we recommend a blouse, skirt/ trousers or formal dresses and shoes. Female students are reminded that academic hoods need to be secured at the front - for example to the second or third button of a blouse - otherwise pins have to be used.
During the ceremony you will be required to walk up and down stairs to be presented with your certificate on the stage, we therefore recommend that you wear appropriate footwear.
It must be noted that we cannot allow students who are inappropriately dressed, or those not wearing robes to be presented at the ceremony.
Robes must be returned to the Main Hall on the day of Graduation.
