Visitors - Writtle University College

We welcome visitors to use the resources and facilities of Writtle University College Library. Students who have left the college and members of the public may join the Library as follows:

Who can use the library?

  • Outgoing students can join the Library free for one year provided that they join before they leave.
  • Members of the Alumni of Writtle can join the Library for a fee of 15.00 per year
  • Members of the general public wishing to use the library may join as an external borrower for a fee of 20.00 per year.

Applications must be made in writing in the library. This entitles you to borrow 4 books at a time and make use of other Library facilities.

How can I use the library?

Visitors who register as external borrowers are granted borrowing privileges. There will be no library card issued.

The library catalogue

You can use the library catalogue to find out what is in the College library. You can access the catalogue from dedicated terminals in the libraries, or online.

If you are an external borrower you may borrow up to four items. Usually the loan period is one week, but items can be renewed up to three times. However, please note that there may be restrictions on which items you can borrow, and some categories of stock (such as journals) are not for loan at all. Library material cannot be taken out unless it is issued to you by library staff. A security system is in operation.

Books may be renewed on or before the due date, provided no one else has reserved them. Renewal is the responsibility of the borrower, and can be requested in the library or by telephone.

Late return of loans

The fines for overdue items are 20p per day per item. If you have a fine of more than 1.00 on your record, you are not able to take out any items.

Enquiry services

If you need help locating information, or using any of the facilities, please ask a member of library staff at the counter or enquiry desk, or contact us by phone or email. 01245 424245 or Email.
